Web Designers Beware!

So how can we (the website designer) survive?

As website designers, I have a personal interest in a trend that threatens to put me and my kind of business. That “threat” is Web Design Templates. In short, they are precast web design that can be used as a basis for fast website and high quality. Usually, you will receive a Photoshop file (. Psd), Flash file (. FLA) files, HTML tables and initial scripting already complete fonts, sounds and anything else that can be part of the design the website. A couple of years ago, these templates are a small problem in the design world. Most of them were of minimal quality and were not all that many do not. Now some of the “big players” like BG Website Templates (http: //www.bg-website-templates. com), are supplying spectacular designs, including flash 3D animation, multimedia and dynamic programming in prices comparable to dinner.

So how can we (the humble designer) survive? My first suggestion is to “aim high”. By this I mean start pointing to a “higher end” clientele. Most companies of any size will not want to have a website design that can also be found on dozens of websites worldwide. These templates, while very impressive, even templates. Still require the knowledge and skills of a professional to operate at their full potential. So consider the promotion of skills customization for customers seeking a low cost solution. You can still gain a lot in the website and will have to do much faster. Another advantage of this method is that the client has already chosen a design, so that the process of “round” design has been removed.

Finally, you can choose to directly promote the templates on your own website. You may feel you are cutting your wrists, but as mentioned earlier, customers who wish to use a template will most likely not want to spend the money for his custom work anyway. Once you’ve saved money on design work by selling a template, you have a better opportunity to update your order with accessories such as chat rooms, information services and newsletters. You might end up moving forward. If our careers as website designers survive this competition remains to be seen, but meanwhile it does not hurt to at least familiar with the web templates.  Knowing your competition is key to success
