10  biggest mistakes in web design

There are a lot of mistakes in the world of web design. Let’s look at what I think is the biggest 10.

1.Too much advertising.

When you are trying to make money from your website, you can easily overwhelm your site with ads. Put yourself in the users and have a good look at your site and you wonder if the ads to feel like an intrusion. How is the site as an information source or feels more like a page-holder for the ads?

2.Plugin Overload.

You have to keep the use of plug-in for up to a rate per page. If you have Flash, you can not have a media player, or are using Java, Flash. It’s not so bad to use the same module twice, however.

3.Flash Intros.

Please do not use a Flash intro to your website. They have been so overused that are becoming universal scoffed.

4.Clear design and navigation.

Many websites, especially business sites, suffering from any disease in which the simplest task takes 10 steps. If users are asked to do things rights, then you need to improve its design and navigation. If there are certain tasks that people want to do often put them on the first page.

5. Do not mark external links.

There are two types of links: internal (to other parts of your website) and external (other websites). For the benefit of its users, it is best if you mark external links, either making them a different color or using some kind of symbol (a box with an arrow is provided). It’s also good to make external links open in new windows, so people do not leave your site completely when clicked.

6.Linking clear.

Some websites are designed to show the links only when people put the mouse over them. While this may make the web design look better, not very easy to use. Instead, use a high contrast color for the links, and preferably to the fore. This makes them more visible to the user, so user friendly.

7. Unlabeled email links.

Always clearly mark a link to send an email (mailto link) with ‘email’ of the word. When activated by clicking a name in the email sent, you annoy users waiting to know more about the person.

8. Broken links.

You should check your links regularly to make sure they all still work. There is nothing worse than finding a site that looks useful, only to find that it has not been updated in years, so most links do not work. While a web site operated by itself especially after a while, that does not mean you should neglect the essential maintenance.

9. Sources strange.

Adhere to common web fonts: that’s more or less only Arial, Georgia, Tahoma and Verdana. If you use more obscure sources, so most users do not have – and found the text difficult to read. The only place non-standard fonts is in your logo or title, and only if they are displayed as an image.

10. Wrong text size.

It is important to keep the text around the standard size. Making text too big or too small makes it difficult to read and annoying for many users. The best thing to do is use relative text size (not pixels) that allows the browser to respect the user’s text size you prefer. You should also consider offering buttons on your site to increase or decrease the font size.
